Lynn Terry of ClickNewz an interview

Lynn Terry 300x199 Lynn Terry of ClickNewz an interview

Tell me about your Blog?

I am best known for http://www.ClickNewz.com and have been blogging full time for more than 5 years now. That is where I share tips and resources for affiliate marketing, internet marketing, web development, etc. My goal is to help others start and manage a profitable online business, and I focus on a variety of models and methods.

I do a lot of candid reviews and niche talk. It’s great fun, and there is an active community of readers that contribute thoughts and resources through the comments as well.

How do you make money online?

I’m a super affiliate, and do affiliate marketing in a wide variety of niches. I have a range of models and methods and have done PPC, CPA, SEO and all of the other fun acronyms you can think of. :)

My primary model is affiliate marketing, and my primary method is SEO. I’m a big fan of easy longtail rankings and high conversion rates – so I shoot for

3+ word phrases with commercial intent when optimizing individual pages

3+ or posts.

Things that I test myself, or resources I find and use, are what I share at ClickNewz.

What is the biggest tip you would give to a newbie blogger?

Don’t quit. I see entirely too many people start, and then stop before they ever reach profit. The key is to stick it out all the way from start to profit.

It takes time to get a new blog established in the search engines, and to build a readership, but it’s definitely worth it. Blog frequently, optimize every post, network and get involved with your target market… and have fun with it!

What is the biggest tip you would give to my blog?

You would put me on the spot, wouldn’t you? ;)

My tip is to get rid of the light gray text in the sidebar. It’s very small text, and with the super light grey color, I am not even able to make it out on my monitor.

I would also increase the font size within your posts, to make the text easier to read.

What do advertisers do that you wish they wouldn’t?

I rarely sell ad space on my blog, or any of my websites, but with Affiliate Merchants the one thing they do that drives me bonkers: switch affiliate networks, platforms or link structures. It’s maddening to have to track down and update every single affiliate link when they do this!

When I do get a request for ad space, I wish that they would include the image and/or text link with the request. I can’t even consider a request until I know whether it is a good match for my market or not…

What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t?

I’m certainly not the blog police, but I could come up with a few things that are particularly annoying on blogs:

- Never respond to comments/questions left by their readers

- Force me to register or sign in to leave a comment

- Write an apology post (“sorry I haven’t blogged lately” – just blog!)

- Position their ads in a way that make the content difficult to read

- Assume everyone knows who they are, with no name on posts, or zero info on the About page

- Refer to a previous post, without hyperlinking to it

What do you do to improve the world?

I blog! :)

Seriously, there are so many people that need the ability to work from home, for one reason or the other, or a way to supplement their current income, that I work daily to provide those ideas and resources.

I also manage a website and forum for this community, and have a passion for helping people achieve their goals. Not just financial goals, but also lifestyle goals.

What is one thing about you that not many people know?

I didn’t finish high school or go to college, and prior to starting my first business at the age of 23… I held dead-end low-paying jobs while barely making ends meet and trying to raise my children.

I’m also partially deaf and suffered regressive memory loss, both due to a car accident many years ago.

What’s your favourite book?

My all-time favorite is the classic Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

Pulling a close second would be The Power of Full Engagement. Combined, these books have had a major influence on me and on the success I have achieved.

What are your contact details (email, company, blog, Facebook, MySpace, forums, etc)?

Blog: http://www.clicknewz.com

Forum: http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/members/

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/lynnterry

Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/lynnterry

The best way to reach me directly is through my forum, or on Twitter.

What events do you go to?

I love local meet-ups, such as the Nashville Geek Breakfast, and also love to attend conferences and seminars every chance I get. One that I attend faithfully, where I also present, is NAMS or http://www.nicheaffiliatemarketingsystems.com . It’s a workshop on niche affiliate marketing.

Who would you recommend, and why?

Rosalind Gardner, because she practices what she teaches and she teaches it well. She is THE super affiliate, and the one that I learned from myself.

What conversations do you want to be part of?

Any conversation on internet marketing, online business or working from home. I love to hear start-up stories, success stories, creative ideas and new resources. I also love to hear questions people have on these topics, and enjoy the daily discussions on both my forum and blog.

Great interview! Although I did scratch my head after the interview skipped over the one thing that people don’t know about you. I’m sure there are tons of lessons that we can all stand to learn from right there.

Nonetheless it was short and sweet :)

Excellent interview! I have learned a ton from Lynn over the years and she’s just as great in person as she is online.

As for the advertisers question, that stood out because just this morning I had a request to place an ad on my site BUT the person never told me what website for one he was interested in placing an ad or nor did he share any info about his business. Why would someone do that? HA!

Looking forward to NAMS and I’m hoping to attend other events in the future as well.

Very interesting interview – some of the questions seemed confrontational and I learned some stuff about Lynn I did not know!

“What do you do to change the world?”

“I blog!”

A real gem!
