This is an interview with Robyn Wright who didn’t mention that she was voted one of Nielson’s 50 Online Power Moms. Robyn is active on Twitter and Facebook and writes many product reviews on her blog. She has embarked on a new journey coming out  from behind her avatar of a hand on a keyboard to showing photos of herself and now making videos. It’s nice to see the real her that so many have come to enjoy reading about on her blog. Learn some more about her:

Tell me about your Blog -

Robyn’s Online World is really who I am in real life. I talk about everything that happens in my real life, things about me, homeschooling, my teenage son, my marriage, cooking, computers, internet, gadgets, and my pets. Plus I do the reviews and giveaways – but I even do that in real life! I am that chatty stranger in the store who gives you her opinion when you are looking at something – the same as on Robyn’s Online World.

What was your first blog?

Robyn’s Online World is my first official blog really. I have had other websites over the years, but as far as real blogging goes this is where I got started.

What is the biggest tip you would give to product reviewers?

Be enthusiastic, but honest. It is ok to include something negative about an item in your review – it is that honesty that many companies are looking for in blog reviews. The other really important part is to let folks know how the item relates to you and your life. Does it solve a problem, help with a task, give you enjoyment? Share that with your readers!

Are you contacted by advertisers or do you contact them or both?

I am contacted daily now by companies and PR reps about including things on my blog. When I started in June of 2008 though I began by reviewing things on my own that I bought or used and I joined MomCentral.com as a panelist. That is what got me started. Things have snowballed since then. I don’t contact companies directly via email asking for things to review, but I do ask often on twitter if I have been in contact with them already on twitter. It is very casual and easy to do it that way.

What is your favorite product that you have reviewed?

I honestly can’t pick just one thing! I’ve just been going through my reviews on my blog and I would yell out – oh this one – but then scroll a bit farther and say no this one, then no this one. LOL – I really have been lucky to review some great products and services. I have become a customer of many of the companies that have sent me free trials because I liked them so much.

What do advertisers do that you wish they wouldn’t/ do that you like?

I wish that they would be more direct in what they want of me when contacting me. Don’t just send me a press release and expect me to read your mind. I love it when I can see a company has looked at my blog, read my PR page, and already knows that I might be a good fit for them. It is easy to spot that in an email and much appreciated.

What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t/do that you like?

I really think everyone should do what works for them, whatever works for you, you should do. My only big pet peeve about bloggers is music that starts up automatically when you load their blogs – ugh!

What advertiser would you like to work with given a chance?

A really huge idea would be to work with a home builder and be able to blog about the entire process of picking out, having the home built, moving in, and going through the years in the home. That is a huge project I know – but I really would love to do something major and long term like this!

Where do you see growth in the blogging field?

I think things are opening up to other members of the family, not just the “mommy blogger”. My teenage son and Hubby are both working on getting their own blogs going and doing reviews. Lots of family members, not just mom, have a consumer voice.

What is one thing about you that not many people know?

I do not have a lot of formal education. I graduated from high school and that’s it. Learning is something I have always enjoyed, but I was so bored in school that I did not want to do college then and never got around to it. I’m just a self-taught kind of gal!

The dictionary

What is on your iPod?

An eclectic mix of classic rock, country, jazz, classical, light music, informational podcasts, and a lot of Christmas music.

What events do you go to?

I am just starting to venture out into the conventions area. This weekend I will be attending the St. Louis Interactive Festival, a local event for me. I also am planning on attending BlogHer ’10 next fall. I hope to attend some other blogging events coming up sooner as well.
