Tell me about your company?
Terra Matrix Media aims to become the world’s best and most technology enabled direct marketer. We excel in media buying, optimization, product development, and cross monetization in the US and UK. We use our direct response background to both drive traffic to capture forms as well as destination sites/portals and our own products.
Our technology enables us to operate a very lean and intelligent buying machine across all media sources, but we particularly excel in any paid search and display where we can adjust bids and product mixes using software. We have very sophisticated analytics to support our decision-making, and great work flow tools to make site, form, and product changes in real time.
Our business model enables businesses to offload their media risk and execution to a company that specializes in operating all acquisition channels. We excel at managing this risk and operate market leading and product agnostic direct response capabilities in all marketing channels.
How did you get into affiliate marketing?
I started in 2004 at eMarketMakers (Vendare/Netblue/Connexus) while still a student at UCLA. I was fortunate enough to work with some of today’s market shapers such as Evan Lovett (BardonDirect), Bryan May(RevupMedia), Maricel Dehne (Advertise.com), and Arthur Wang(Terra Matrix Media). This experience and exposure connected me to the world of online affiliate marketing. Not long after working with affiliates I started building lead generation products in the US and then helped to start Terra Matrix Media in the US and UK.
What was your biggest challenge getting into affiliate marketing?
Undoubtedly establishing relationships without a reputation. Since so much business in affiliate marketing is built on trust and referrals, an affiliate marketers biggest asset is the recommendation and scouting report that comes from others.
What are the main things merchants do that you wish they wouldn’t?
Not create any value. In such a hyper competitive environment you want a merchant that not only provides value to the user but also the affiliate marketplace.
What are the main things affiliates do that you wish they wouldn’t?
Unfortunately I feel some affiliates are too short sided and are only looking to make a quick buck for themselves. What I’d like to see are true partnerships between the affiliate and merchant where each parties motives are aligned and the goal is long term sustainable growth.
Where do you see growth in the affiliate field?
Not only do I see incredible growth within the UK and Australian market, but like many I see mobile screens as the next frontier. With companies like AdMob and Third Screen Media popping up, many more merchants and affiliates are making mobile part of their digital strategy.
What do you do to improve the world?
I actually attend parties and meet tons of people at clubs to improve the world. No really, I’m a huge fan and participant of Philanthro Productions based here in Los Angeles which is a non-profit organization. Their motto is ” Party for a better future” and they basically throw parties at various clubs and bars to raise awareness and money for causes ranging from Cystic Fibrosis and illiteracy to helping raise money for Kiva.org.

What do you do that is green?
I try my hardest to be a localvoire as with limit my transportation on the weekends to a beach cruiser. Considering i drive 40 miles to and from the office, I work overtime on my bike during the weekends to offset my footprint.
What is one thing about you that not many people know?
That I’ve recently taken up ocean kayaking. Growing up in Los Angeles, the ocean was always accessible but I never truly took advantage of the proximity. However, about a year ago I rented an ocean kayak and paddled my way to Manhattan Beach. Since then I’ve been paddling several times a month along the Southern California coast.
What is on your iPod?
Kings of Leon, The Kooks, Jurassic 5, Gypsy Kings, Phoenix, and Citizen Cope. When I’m at work I tend to let Pandora.com tell me what I like 🙂
What’s your favorite book?
Confederacy of Dunces. Supposedly Hollywood plans to make it into a feature film with Will Ferrel.
