Tell me about your blog?

Inkweaver Review is popular young adult book review blog that is over a year old. The focus of Inkweaver Review is anything having to do with books, authors, and publishing. I cover book reviews, book and publishing news, author interviews, and other book related information articles.

Inkweaver Review is currently Google Pagerank 4, and it gets over 300 visitors a day on weekdays.

What was your first blog?

My first blog was actually a poetry and writing blog located on a university server. The blog system I was using, however, proved to be much too limited, and the community too sparse to make the blog successful. I have since replaced that inital writing blog with a new surreal writing and art blog: Imagination Manifesto. This blog contains all the content from my first blog, but it isn’t updated very often, as I spend the majority of my time on Inkweaver Review.

What is the biggest tip you would give to a newbie blogger?

My biggest tip would be: “Be patient.” The majority of bloggers give up too fast, because they expect that they will get loads of traffic during the first few months of blogging. That may be possible in some extreme cases, but for the average blogger, don’t expect good, regular traffic until at least six months have passed.

It takes time to build a regular following, and to build up Google Pagerank so that you get regular search engine results.

What do advertisers do that you wish they wouldn’t?

Many advertisers assume that every blogger wants to advertise trashy Make Money Fast blogs. They use worthless, grainy ad pictures, with no regard to aspect ratio, and expect the blogger to put this potentially reputation harming ad above the fold, at the very top of the blog.

Bloggers aren’t that desperate. We don’t want ad money that badly.

What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t?

Many bloggers get excited about all the ads, widgets, and blog addons available. Then they load up their blog sidebar with Javascript and Flash so that the page is 3mb total, and takes a full minute to load completely, even on a T1 connection.

It gets even worse when the sidebar is on the left, and takes so long to load that it is ten or more seconds before the post area appears.

Another major mistake that many bloggers make is copying content or images from other blogs. They crank out a bunch of posts that are basically just copies of the content from major blogs, with links to these blogging leaders.

It is much better to be a blogging leader yourself. Be an innovator, and come up with your own content. That is the mark of a professional blogger.

Where do you see growth in the blogging field?

As a book review blogger I see serious growth in the review field. With the latest news that Google is supporting structured markup for reviews to generate rich snippets for use on the search engine result page, I expect that reviews will come to be an even more popular field.

People, and industries, are starting to look at blog reviews much more closely, because they are a fairly accurate measure of what people really think about products. I can see reviews increasing even more in popularity as people realize that through blogging they can have a larger voice to complain about or praise products.

What do you do to improve the world?

It is my hope that Inkweaver Review will help children and adults to find books that are worth reading. By directing people to exciting, well-written, meaningful books, Inkweaver Review can help foster a love of reading.

Reading improves the mind, by teaching people how to learn for themselves. With a book you can learn about anything. You can learn to do anything, or you can relax and go anywhere, either in this world, or in another fantasy setting.

More reading is something that can improve the world, and by promoting books, I hope that Inkweaver Review will promote reading.

What do you do that is green?

In real life I ride my bicycle to most destinations rather than driving or even taking public transport.

What’s your favourite book?

As a book review blogger, I have many favorite books, but the one that stands out first and foremost is Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. This book is phenomenal for its use of language and the vivid work pictures inside.

What is more Inkheart and its sequels were also the inspiration behind the title of my blog Inkweaver Review. In the Inkworld Series “the Inkweaver” is an old man who wrote an amazing book that is real world all its own. As a writer “the Inkweaver” weaves words with amazing skill.

The goal of Inkweaver Review is to highlight real life Inkweavers, those people that are able to weave words into solid books and amazing worlds.

What is on your iPod?

I actually don’t have an iPod. All my music is stored on my MacBook, and I listen to it using iTunes. That’s my form of portable music.
