Mark Drapeau an interview
Tell me about your Mark Drapeau?
markdrapeau.com and I also teach at George Washington University
What was your first experience of social media?
When I was a scientist at NYU the students told me about Facebook, so I’ve been on there since about 2005.
What is the biggest tip you would give to a newbie in social media?
Hustle.
What do advertisers do that you wish they wouldn’t?
Contact me.
What do bloggers do that you wish they wouldn’t?
Not tell a complete story or make a complete argument in most of their posts.
Where do you see growth in the social media field?
Clearly, consulting on building platforms and training people to be more social in a productive way that meets the needs of an organization is key for government and the private sector.
What new ideas are advertisers coming up with to take advantage of new trends?
Nothing great lately as far as I’ve seen. Advertisements inside tweets and things on social networks like “Bob just bough Cheerios, don’t you want some?” are lame.
What do you do to improve the world?
Try to share good ideas I have with as many people as possible as selflessly as possible through a variety of media.
What do you do that is green?
I don’t own a car.
What is one thing about you that not many people know?
I’m an introvert.
What’s your favorite book?
I don’t really have a favorite anything but one of my classic favorites is The Hunt For Red October by Tom Clancy. It really got me interested in the world and in the military. I also loved the Foundation series by Isaac Azimov.
What is on your iPod?
Everything from Bon Jovi to Gavin DeGraw to Madonna to Chopin.
What are your contact details (email, company, blog, facebook, myspace, forums, etc)?
Find me on Facebook.
What events do you go to?
The ones most people don’t go to. The last great small event I went to was the Audience Conference, and before that it was BlogPotomac.
How do you prefer to communicate?
One on one.
Who would you recommend, and why?
Washington Life’s list of creative new media people
http://www.washingtonlife.com/2009/11/08/the-creative-list-new-media/
What is one thing people can do for you?
Listen more carefully.
